Numerology

Numerology is the historic study of the relationship between names, birthdates, and numbers. In fact the word Numerology is derived from the word ‘numerus' a Latin word for ‘number' and the Greek word ‘logos' meaning thought & word.

In Numerology, unlike Astrology or tarot, a person's birth name as-well-as their birth-date have significant influences on their life path and personality. Calculating various influential traits of a person is a straight forward process. This can be done using our Life Path Calculator.

For the Expression number analysis, each letter of a person's name is given a numerical value from 1 - 9, then the numbers are added up and reduced to a single digit number, except in cases where the name comes out to 11 or 22. In the case of an 11 the person will have traits of an 11 in addition to (1 + 1 = 2) giving the person additional traits of a 2, and in the case of a 22 they will also have traits of a 4 (2 + 2 = 4).

To calculate the Life Path number, which is based on the birth-date, you use basic mathimatics and add up the numbers in the date and then reduce it. For example Jan. 25, 1973 becomes: (Jan = 1) + (25 = 2 + 5 = 7) + (1973 = 1 + 9 + 7 + 3 = 20 = 2 + 0 = 2) = (1 + 7 + 2 = 10 = 1 + 0 = 1) = 1.

History of Numerology

Numerology dates back thousands of years with variations of it in most cultures throughout history, and is has been taught and studied by some of the most respected mathematicians throughout history even though it is usually dismissed is as a pseudoscience.
Numerology facts
Many of the ancient cultures: China, Japan, India, Babylon, and Egypt, were familiar with numerology long before the Greeks and Romans started using it.

Pythagoras, a Greek mathematician and philosopher (569-470 B.C.) and generally considered the originator of the popular Pythagorean system, believed that reality is mathematical. He viewed the entire universe as being composed of mathematical patterns and was adamant that all things can be expressed in numbers that correspond to energy patterns of vibrations.

The teachings of Pythagoras were adopted by the notable Socrates and Plato and studied by early Christian scholars, including St. Augustine. This ultimately led to its expansion during the Renaissance, and it continues to be studied and practiced today.

Types of Numerology

There are 3 main studies:
  • Chaldean
  • Pythagorean
  • Kabbalah
The 3 systems offer 3 different interpretations of your life path because they calculate your number meaning differently.

Chaldean Number System

Rooted in Ancient Babylon, the Chaldean System is probably the oldest known system. In the Chaldean System, the letter to number calculations is not determined by alphabetical order that is used in the more common Pythagorean method, but is assigned based on the vibration of the specific letter.

The number formula is based on calculating 1 to 8. The number 9 is considered a holy or sacred number and does not have a letter associated with is. The only time a 9 can show up is in when the final number when all the calculations are done.

Pythagorean (Western) Number System

The most popular system is the Pythagorean System. This number system assigns the number value by the sequence of the Western alphabet and uses a number formula based on calculating 1 to 9.

Kabbalah System

The Kabbalah System comes from the Hebrew mystics. The Kabbalah number system only looks at the persons name, not their birth data which is one of the reasons it is not popular among numerologists. This system has assigned twenty-two vibrations ranging from 1 to 400.
